David Newsome manages the retail team and oversees all aspects of the company’s new retail development projects. A native Californian, David has more than 23 years of commercial real estate experience and has been involved in nearly ten million square feet of retail development projects during his career.

Prior to joining Watt, David held senior management positions in shopping center development companies such as Shea Properties, Center Trust, Ahmanson Commercial Development Company and the Irvine Company.  He was responsible for directing development teams on both new projects and shopping center renovations/expansions in markets such as Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Tucson, the San Francisco Bay Area, San Diego, Oklahoma, Idaho and southern California.  His responsibilities included team formation, conceiving, analyzing, entitling and implementing projects.  With his diverse management, leasing, operations and project experience, David brings a broad range of capabilities to the development process.

David is a licensed real estate broker in the state of California and graduated from the University of the Redlands, California, where he received a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute, the International Council of Shopping Centers and serves on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme.  He resides in Westlake Village, California.
